At Eisai, we give our first thoughts to patients and their families and helping to increase the benefits health care provides. We call it human health care (hhc). We are committed to providing innovative approaches that help those patients with the greatest unmet medical needs and contributing to the health and well-being of people worldwide.
Magnolia Paws for Compassion is a special program, created by Eisai Inc., which seeks to increase access to animal assistance and raise awareness of the many benefits that interaction with animals can provide to those coping with illness, such as epilepsy. In partnership with the Epilepsy Foundation and 4 Paws for Ability, we highlight the support that animal assistance – specifically through a service dog – can provide families affected by epilepsy or seizure disorders.
Meet Sophia and Susan and learn about how Fresca, their service dog from 4 Paws for Ability, has changed their lives.
Managing epilepsy is an everyday task, but lapses in treatment can happen. These lapses can lead to a “breakthrough” seizure—a seizure that happens even when a patient is taking their medication. A significant number of people report experiencing breakthrough seizures after missing a single dose of their antiseizure medication.
Nearly 50% of people with epilepsy surveyed reported having a breakthrough seizure following a missed dose, and 71% reported missing at least one dose of their medication. Seizures can happen when levels of antiseizure medication in the body become too low. That’s why even one lapse in dosing can put patients at increased risk for a breakthrough seizure.
Talk with a healthcare provider about lapses in taking antiseizure medication. They can help develop strategies for keeping treatment on track.
