Epileptic, but want to make sure the terminology in my book isn't offensive to other epileptics

Hi folks, I'm writing a book (Fantasy LitRPG) and one of my characters is epileptic, with his seizures acting as the unlikely origin of his magical powers. The language I've been using so far though is based on my own experience, and the terminology to which I'm accustomed. So I've been using terms like grand mal, petit mal, simple-partial, etc. Do you find that terminology offensive in any way, given that the nomenclature has changed over the years? While I feel a sense of ownership over my own experiences, I do want to be respectful of the other epileptics who may read my books. Thanks, Paul
